Life in Christian County, Kentucky...
The big oak trees here between the soybean field and the cornfield may have been planted long ago to mark a property line. It's common in Kentucky to see natural landmarks mentioned in old property descriptions, such as "...200 feet to a metal stake, thence 557 feet to a white oak tree..."
This photo was taken in Todd County, a few miles west of Elkton, KY, and about 15 miles from our home. In some areas, this narrow blacktop road has cornfields on both sides of it. Though it's a public road, I felt like I was actually driving through the middle of the field. The tall corn on both sides made the road feel almost like a tunnel.

ReplyDeleteVery nice photo... I would like to tape measure that trunk circumferance. As opposed to counting the rings, though a core sample wouldn't hurt that much? I'm guessing 100 years or close to it?
