Lovely Farm

Life in Christian County, Kentucky... The Rural Life...

Farm

The farm buildings at the other end of this green field have been built over the last year or so by a Mennonite family. It's certainly a very attractive setting. I don't know if older farm buildings were already at this site or not.

There's a practical reason for the white-capped fenceposts, you know. The paint seaks the top of the fencepost so it sheds water and lasts longer in Kentucky's rainy climate. It also adds a nice bit of definition and old-fashioned style to the long driveway. I don't know if there's any particular reason to use white paint or not, but I don't think I've ever seen any other color used.

I suppose that the fast way to paint the posts before you make the fence is to dip them in a bucket of paint. After the posts are set in the ground, maintenance of the paint would have to be with a brush.
