Mashed Potatoes for Thanksgiving

All In The Family... My Various Hobbies...

Today's Miami Herald has an interesting article and basic recipe for mashed potatoes. I have never followed a recipe to make mashed potatoes, but I did get a couple of ideas from the article -- using russet potatoes and stirring in buttermilk.

Dennis would rather have plain boiled potatoes, but on holidays he is outvoted about whether the potatoes should be mashed.

I like to mash them with an old fashioned potato masher. The lumps don't bother me at all.

  1. When I first started Weight Watchers after my first pregnancy, I discovered a recipe for mashed potatoes that used half cauliflower. I decided to try it, and I was hooked. The cauliflower adds such flavor to the potatoes. Add in some garlic and my family was very pleased.

I don't think mash is mash unless it has lumps. Otherwise you may as well call it potato puree. My favourite is with chopped spring onions - I believe you call them green onions - some butter whole milk and a little pepper (I don't use salt as it isn't good for you :) ) It goes well with most anything. I believe it is an Irish invention and they call it 'champ'.
