Deer at Sunset

Deer at sunsetDeer in a neighbor's field

If you click on this photo and enlarge it, you'll see four deer along the horizon. I stopped to take this photo, thinking I'd post it with a comment about the bank of clouds that might be the ice storm we're expecting tomorrow. When I saw the deer, I wasn't very surprised. I often see deer crossing the highway in this vicinity, and it doesn't have to be sunset. They cross at all hours of the day and night. It's best to drive slowly and keep your eyes open when you come through here.

Hello. I just found your blog today when I was reading on fractured.net. They had posted how you repair jeans. Came to your blog and really like it. Then I realized you are just down the road from me!! I live in Madisonville! How neat!! Just had to say Hi Neighbor. I am going to have to come back and copy those recipes you have posted. They look really good.

Hope you don't have too much ice where you are. We do and school is cancelled once again.

Hugs,
Angie from down the road!!

Hi, Angie. Thanks for visiting! I think you may have more ice at Madisonville, but it's not too good here. At present, we have approximately 1/4" of ice over the sidewalks and roads.

My husband went to work, but came home when school was cancelled at 6 AM. My son is sleeping in late this morning as his classes were cancelled at the Hopkinsville Community College.

Hi Genevieve! Love the beautiful photo of the deer - they are such sweet creatures.

We're having a lot of ice here in Illinois today too - so different from the AZ weather I was used to ...

Hope you are doing well - I love the new look to your blog! Peggi xo

Thanks for visiting, Peggi. I saw on the weather report that Illinois was getting lots of ice. I hope your trees all hold up OK!

The deer in the photo look like they were aware that someone was watching. A family of deer hang out in my back yard on summer nights. Sometimes one of them will get curious about me snoring away behind the open window and get right up close. Then it will emit one of the 'cough-snorts' through the screen and wake me. When I stir, the whole family takes off running. Next night, they come right back. I think they like getting a rise out of me.

PT, I think I know the sound you are talking about. The deer sometimes eat apples in our yard at night, and I've heard them "whuff!" and run away when I've startled them.

You are right that they knew I was watching them.
