Downtown Pembroke, KY

Post office, bank, and more

This photo captures at least 25% of Pembroke, KY's downtown area -- the post office and the bank. The bank is a branch office of BB&T. I'm glad that they have decided to use the old bank building.

Just to the left of this photo, several railroad tracks intersect the street. On the other side of the tracks, you will find a liquor store and a feed store. A general merchandise and bargain store sits across the street from the post office. Several churches are located in the general area, as well. More businesses are located along Highway 41.

Pembroke has a population of about 1000 people. The children attend Pembroke Elementary School south of town, and the teenagers go to Hopkinsville for middle and high school.

I've got a question. You might have written about this one before. There is an old house on the left of Pembroke road (I think it is route 41) as you head towards Trenton(I can't remember if it is before or after Trenton)It looks like it could be an old plantation house or something. Do you have any info on it? I love riding through this area because of all the fields and farm land. It's really pretty.

There are at least a couple of old homes along 41 east of Pembroke that look like they date back to sometime in the 1800s. I don't know the history of any of them, but maybe one of the readers will fill us in.

This one is a two story brick house. It looks like it might have been built in the early 1800's, it's all by itself on some land on the outside of town. It's a style that does not look victorian or queen anne, it's more of a federal style looking building. Hope someone knows something. :)

I'm going to look for that house next time I drive through there. I remember at least one huge old house on the right, but I can't remember one on the left. I did look in my "Historic Sites" book for Christian County, but I didn't find anything. However, the house might be in Todd, instead of Christian.

I believe it is in Todd. It's more towards the Trenton area. I think, I'm going on memeory (and it's not what it use to be) that the house is after the town of Trenton if you are heading east, then it would be on the left side. We were coming back from Clarksville, TN and as we were heading west towards Hopkinsville, I saw it on my right side. If I ever get that way again, I will take a picture of it. I do remember that it happens really quick..by that I mean, you are driving and there is nothing around and then all of a sudden in the woods you see it. Thank you for all your help. :)

The building on the left is Pembroke City Hall, in the old Pembroke Clinic built in 1953. The post office is farther to the left, next to Pembroke Baptist Church.

Does anyone have pictures of the old clinic ran by Dr Rose
