Another Trip Down Memory Lane... Life in Christian County, Kentucky... More About Trees and Plants...
The iris are blooming gloriously right now. I have several colors of them, thanks to various people who gave me a start one time or another. These came from Aunt Becky in Illinois.
Iris always remind me of Memorial Day because that's when they bloom in Nebraska. When I was a child, Grandma Barb's iris were always in bloom at Memorial Day. I remember going to the garden with her to cut many stems of iris to take to the cemetery to decorate graves.
Dennis remembers peonies like I remember iris. His mom had a long row of peonie bushes along the driveway, and they bloomed at Memorial Day. He remembers loading the car trunk with peonie blooms and going to the cemetery with his mom to decorate.
Back then, Memorial Day always fell on May 31 and people often called it "Decoration Day."

I love flowers of all kinds i'm not sure what my favorite is though.
Wow i'm really behind on reading your blog, it's going to take me awhile to catch up.
I've got to teach my grandmother how to use the internet so that she can read this blog. She loves flowers, and I know she'd have a lot to say about your beautiful pictures. By the way, is there a way to share pictures with you, or do I need my own blog to do that?
Just wondering...
It would really be best for you to start your own blog. You'd do great and I think you would enjoy it. You express yourself well, and you've already mentioned that you have some stories you'd like to write about your family.
It is so easy to start a blog on Blogger. There are only three steps from registering to having your first post on the internet. I can coach you along if you have any trouble.
Just click the word "Blogger" on the left side of the toolbar at the top of my blog. Then register and just follow the steps, and very shortly you'll be a member of the blogosphere. :D
When you get your blog going, I'll put a link to it here. :)
I am now an official blogger. Thanks for the instructions! I have just begun my blog and have spent a lot of time just trying to figure out how to upload pictures. You have introduced me to a whole new world. Thanks for your help! I'll be back to read your interesting stories. My blog is called "Heart Song," and I hope you'll come to visit. (Now I am called LittleOne instead of Robin)
You're off to a great start. Well done!
If you want your guests to be able to leave comments, you'll have to change that in the settings. Right now, only people on your team can comment. Just so you can see an example of what the settings do, this blog is set so anyone can comment, but the comment verification is turned on (the funny-looking letters).
By the way, it's a great idea to teach your grandmother to use the internet. It would open a whole new world to her.
Thanks, I think I fixed it now so that anyone can comment. I am having so much fun. I hope you don't mind that I have a link to your blog so that I can keep up to date with your latest Hopkinsville happenings. So far, no one has read it but me, but I love doing it anyway! What a fun hobby!
