Google Mini Search

Blogs and Blogging...

I've added a Google Ajax Search bar near the top of the page. It's not really that I wanted it there. I just haven't figured out for sure how to resize it so it will fit in the sidebar.

Anyway, I hope you'll give it a try. The Google Ajax Search API 0.1 is an interesting tool that was made available recently by Google. It's still in Beta, so its final form may include ads. You can also install it on your Google homepage with the "Add to Google" link on the info page.

The installation of the Mini Search here is based on instructions from Chester Millisock's blog, Stuff to Think About. I appreciate people like him who help make neat stuff like this available to amateurs like me!

you need to over ride the width setting on .gsc-control

the gsearch.css you include has a rule of:

.gsc-control { width : 300px }

AFTER including gsearch.css, just provide your own rule:

.gsc-control { width : 200px }

Thanks. I will try moving it sometime tomorrow or the next day, as I can't stay up late tonight to mess with it.

I had looked at the Google stylesheet and I had read that it could be overrode, but I wasn't sure where to put the new value. I appreciate the advice.

I tried putting the search in the sidebar, but I didn't like it there. The links in the search results were sometimes long enough that they spilled over onto the body of my blog.

This probably wouldn't be a problem if the blog's sidebar were on the right instead of the left.

Anyhow, I've decided to leave it where it has been all along.

Very nice! I like how you integrated it with your site!

Thanks, CJ. You're the one who deserves the praise, though. I really appreciated your help with it! If it hadn't been for you, I'd never have got it working!
