Chores and Duties...
If you have a wood stove or fireplace, now is the time to pick up any accessories you need for it. Lowes (at least our store in Hopkinsville, KY) has all their fireplace tools on sale for half-price right now -- tongs, shovels, pokers, ash buckets, etc. Spray bottles of stove glass window cleaner and masonry cleaner are also marked down. I am waiting for them to mark down the chimney cleaning logs (which we burn periodically between manual chimney cleanings) and the boxes of fatwood (for starting fires), and when they do, I will stock up.
If you don't have a wood stove or a fireplace in your home, I hope you have some other form of non-electric heat to use if the electricity goes off. If not, your first prolonged power outage will probably convince you of your need for an alternative heat source. This is the time of year to look for bargains on all types of non-electric appliances.
